Johnny Marr has released his fifth full-length solo studio album, ‘The Age Of Everything’. Written in London, developed live while touring the East Coast of North America and recorded in Manchester, the ten-track album reflects both the energy and tensions of its surroundings.
For Marr, the title became an important part of the record early in the writing process. He describes ‘The Age Of Everything’ as his most cathartic album to date, shaped partly by the sense of overload that technology can create in contemporary culture.
“This is the record that’s been the most cathartic. The title came to me early in the process and became an inescapable idea. It seemed to sum up the way I think a lot of people are feeling.”
That idea is not entirely pessimistic. Marr also sees another side to the technological and cultural overload surrounding us: the possibility of looking at the same world from a different perspective and finding new opportunities within it.
The album is available on CD and vinyl, including standard black vinyl and an indie-exclusive 140-gram red vinyl edition.
