South African singer-songwriter and guitarist Steve Louw has released “Across the River (Live in Nashville),” a new live interpretation of a song originally featured on his fourth solo album, Traces of the Flood. The single became available across all major digital platforms on August 19, 2026.
The original studio version of “Across the River” appears on Steve Louw’s fourth solo album, Traces of the Flood, released on May 15, 2026 via BFD/The Orchard. The new recording presents the song in a full-band live setting, giving its themes of longing, freedom, love and peace a different musical setting.
Across the River (Live in Nashville)’was recorded on December 13, 2025, at The Analog Room in Nashville. The performance formed part of producer Kevin Shirley’s Caveman’s Xmas Bash, an event featuring a selection of Nashville-based and visiting musicians.
For the performance, Steve Louw was joined by guitarists Bob Britt and Doug Lancio, pianist Kevin McKendree, bassist Alison Prestwood, drummer Chad Cromwell and keyboardist Reese Wynans. Britt and Lancio have both worked with Bob Dylan, while Cromwell’s credits include Neil Young and Reese Wynans is known for his work with Stevie Ray Vaughan and Joe Bonamassa.
Louw describes Across the River as a song about the longing for release, freedom, love and peace. While the composition can be performed as an intimate solo acoustic piece, this Nashville version places it within a more expansive and energetic band arrangement.
The accompanying live video documents the performance at The Analog Room and is now available on YouTube.
‘Traces of the Flood’ was produced by Kevin Shirley and released through BFD/The Orchard. The ten-track album is available digitally and on CD and vinyl.
