Review: Andreas Diehlmann Band – Cold Wind On A Dark Black Night

Andreas Diehlmann Band – Cold Wind On A Dark Black Night
Format: CD – Vinyl LP – Digital / Label: M2 Music
Release: 2026
Text: Tom Wouters
Multiple German Blues Awards winner Andreas Diehlmann is by far the heaviest blues rocker in Germany. His raw voice fits perfectly with his powerful guitarwork and with the rock solid rhythm section (Jörg Sebald – bass, Martin Gunkel – drums).
With ‘Cold Wind On A Dark Black Night’ Diehlmann confirms his status once again. An album full of catchy guitar riffs and powerful roar. The album opens with the solo chain gang blues Hey Man and then lifts off with heavy blues rockers, such as On The Road Again, Thunderbolt, Cold Wind, the Deep Purple/ZZ Top-like Miss Fortune, Long Way Home and the funky The Blues.
Even in the slow blues Alone Diehlmann’s guitar sound is monumental, only in the love sick ballad Carol he drives away from the heavy rock with a Peter Green-like guitar sound. The album closes with a cover Sonny Boy Williamson’s Help Me.
Once again the Andreas Diehlmann Band does what it is perfectly good at: recording a heavy blues rock album of great class.
