After their successful album ‘Plays The Allman Brothers,’ The Leif De Leeuw Band returns with Volume 2, another beautiful southern rock guitar album, featuring eight songs of the notorious Allman Brothers Band.
Let me first of all say that this is NOT a standard tribute album, as guitarists Leif de Leeuw and Sem Jansen display their almost second to none guitar playing in classic ABB tracks like Whipping Post or Dreams. Volume 2 kicks off wonderfully with the song End Of The Line, from the ‘Shadows Of Two Worlds’ album, released in 1991, followed by the classic ABB track Don’t Keep Me Wondering.
Black Hearted Woman, from the debut album of the ABB is another highlight of this wonderful album and de Leeuw and Jansen really shine as guitar pickers here. Not My Cross To Bear, also from the debut album released way back in 1969 is next and again Leif de Leeuw and band nail this one as well.
One Way Out and Dreams have always been two of my favourite tracks from the Southern rockers and needless to say that these tracks rock and give me goosebumps all over…. Whipping Post, again a track from the debut album, is of course another milestone Southern rock song and again Leif’s guitar playing is very impressive for sure.
Finally, the listener is “treated” to an intimate, acoustic version of Midnight Rider, and that one is definitely not my favourite, as I am not a huge fan of acoustic versions of great songs; but, hey that is just my humble opinion.
Leif de Leeuw’s second Allman Brothers accolade is a wonderful album indeed, a must have for ABB-fans; indeed, just check out the impressive guitar solos and you will be hooked.
