I must honestly say that I had never heard of Tim Scott McConnel aka Ledfoot. Insiders know that he is the composer of High Hopes, which was recorded by Bruce Springsteen and of the high energy song Kiss My Ass Goodbye. He is an American songwriter, but he lives in Norway since 1993. His folky pop can be compared with Matthew Southern Comfort and Skip Taylor. On the new album he plays guitar, banjo, bass and percussion. And there is Markus Klyve on keyboards, percussion and additional vocals.
The first song on the album is All You Ever Had. It sets the vibe of the record. Acoustic guitar and banjo with Skip Taylor like vocals.
The title song Plain Simple Honesty says it all. In a laid back hippie song Ledfoot sings about values and truth. He is just looking for a better way for the future despite the past in which we didn’t learn anything. My Empty Heart has a familiar melody and is fragile. An Emotional song.
Burning Blue is a jazzy suspense song with a finger clipping rhythm. Crystal River is a lovely song which could be played at a camp fire or wayback at the Woodstock festival. Hey Ho has a different vibe. It’s a rockabilly song with a vaudeville flavour. The music on this album is soothing like a summer sun bath. As a contrast the last five songs are down hearted and tell us everything about drama and being victimized.
Hard Times is an acoustic slide guitar song which put the question why the rich keep getting richer and the rest is in deep despair. The next song gives the answer: The Devil’s Game, a country banjo song. Alone Again is a country ballad break up song. And the cherry on the drama cake is The Ways Of A Man. What a struggle to live and survive, more poverty and illness. He tells it in plain simple honesty. Ledfoot walking with leaded shoes.
