‘The Preacher’ is the album Innes Sibun has been threatening to make for many years now. When Sibun joined Robert Plant’s band in 1993 at the recommendation of Plant bassist Charlie Jones, Charlie discussed producing an instrumental album with Innes, it has taken until now for this to come to fruition due to recording & touring commitments.

The album is very nearly all instrumental with the exception of two songs featuring the soulful vocals of Detroit born Marcus Malone, Innes’s musical partner in the project Malone Sibun which released a critically well received album ‘Come Together’ just before the covid lockdown in 2020.

The album differs from past Sibun releases with a much broader palette of styles from his previous blues/rock albums. ‘The Preacher’ embraces Sibun’s love of gospel, jazz & funk & is his most eclectic album to date ranging from swampy slide guitar to 60’s style Blue note jazz, that’s not to say that there is not a big helping of blues all wrapped up in the album but his influences from Curtis Mayfield, Larry Carlton & John Scofield are easy to hear in the 11 tracks that make up the album, 10 of which are Sibun originals with the addition of the Bobby Hebb standard “Sunny”.

The album features an incredible cast of musicians with Charlie Jones ( Page/Plant, The Cult, Goldfrapp) playing bass on three cuts with Clive Deamer (Jeff Beck, Portishead, Robert Plant, Radiohead) on drums & John Baggott (Robert Plant, Portishead, Massive Attack) on electric piano.

The other songs feature Sibun’s touring band with Kevin O’Rourke on drums, Kevin Jefferies (Roger Taylor) on bass & Anders Olinder (Glenn Hughes) on Hammond organ & piano.
