Robin Trower, born in 1945, is, after the immaculate Jimi Hendrix of course, the second-best British guitar player ever; just listen to Trower’s first three legendary album and you will hopefully agree with me. Last year I reviewed Robin Trower’s twenty-eight studio album ‘Come And Find Me‘ and I loved it, as his guitar playing on that album was again, better said still, second to none indeed.
Now, only a couple of months later Trower is back with a live album called ‘One Moment In Time – Live In The USA,’ featuring fourteen tracks. After one spin of this spectacular live album I was already hooked, as Trower’s very recognisable guitar playing gave me shivers and goosebumps right from the start.
The album kicks off with The Razor’s Edge, a wonderful blues rock track from his ‘No More Worlds To Conquer album,’ released in 2022; and from that album Trower plays four other tracks. But the absolute highlights here are of course the “oldies”, meaning four songs from the legendary ‘Bridge Of Sighs’ album (Too Rolling Stoned, Day Of The Eagle, Little Bit Of Sympathy and the title track) and Daydream from Trower’s debut solo album ‘Twice Removed From Yesterday.’
The version of Daydream here is an amazing twelve-minute blues/ballad gem where Trower really plays like Hendrix, what a blast indeed. Further highlights are Somebody Calling from the album In City Dreams (1977), It’s Too Late from the B.L.T. album (1981) with Jack Bruce and One Go Round from Trower’s last album Come And Find Me.
So, Trower does it again, as this is truly a guitar masterpiece album indeed, so guitar addicts and Hendrix aficionados run to your nearest record store and buy One Moment in Time! Put the record on at home, get out your air guitar and jam along to Trower’s soaring guitar solos, if you can!
