The legendary guitar player Robin Trower made his name and achieved success with the notorious Procol Harum during 1967-1971, but I “discovered” him two years later when he released his first solo album called ‘Twice Removed From Yesterday.’ From that moment on I have been an addictive fan of Trower’s guitar playing, which reminded me of Jimi Hendrix (the best guitar picker ever), as he is of course the truly respected bearer of the Hendrix-influenced sound… Songs from his early solo career like Daydream, Bridge Of Sighs or Too Rolling Stoned are still tracks that I cherish and listen to very frequently.
‘Come And Find Me’ is Robin Trower’s twenty-eight solo album and it is a blast, 100% musical guitar bliss indeed. The opening song of ‘Come And Find Me,’ which is called A Little Bit Of Freedom, sets the tone for this magical album, offering Tower’s fantastic signature guitar sound and his notorious wah-wah effects!
On Trower’s twenty-eight solo album he enlisted his trusted studio band consisting of: Chris Taggart (drums), Glenn Letsch (bass guitar) and long-standing singer Richard Watts, while the vocals of Jess Haynes can be heard on the soul-like song Tangled Love. The title track, being one of the highlights, starts rather slow bluesy, but evolves into a beautiful, spectacular guitar epic, as only Trower can come up with! Take This Hurt Away is a wonderful blues ballad with stunning vocals and Trower’s guitar solo really nails this one for sure; goosebumps all over!!
The last of the eleven beautiful songs called Time Stood Still is another highlight here as the Jimi Hendrix style intro is followed by Trower’s yearning guitar and Watts’ emotional vocals, making this drenched love song a brilliant ending of ‘Come And Find Me.’
Robin Trower, aged eighty years old/young, is still a guitar force to be reckoned with and let’s be clear about one thing: No ONE plays guitar like Robin Trower!! Listening tip: One Go Round at maximum volume!!
