Jerry “Boogie” McCain live. This CD delivers some down home blues that you’ll enjoy, Jerry’s got the blues all over him! Featuring Chick Willis, Nappy Brown and The King Bees.
Seventeen tracks on this live album, a real treat. Mama’s Pride is a tribute to Jerry’s father (and mother) and was recorded in a studio, so it seems. But all the rest is live on this album.
Jerry McCain has had an impressive career as a recording artist and he was an influential harmonica player and songwriter (who does not love his song She’s Tough, made famous by the Fabulous Thinderbirds?).
Hotrod Ford is a true car song with Jerry singing, tapping his foot and playing some harmonica. That’s it. Let me tell you pretty baby is just like that. Same with You Knows How To Love. Jerry knows how it is done.
I think this is a bunch of recordings collected over some years and now released as a live album. Jerry died in 2012, Chick Willis and Nappy Brown who are featured on this album died in 2013 and 2008, respectively.
The band that features on this album The King Bees (featuring Rob “Hound Dog” Baskerville and Penny “Queen Bee” Zamagni) knows how to accompany an older bluesman. Kudos for them.
This album shows what Jerry McCain was all about, raw and direct.
