Tony Iommi has released Stormwatcher, the latest single from his forthcoming album ‘From The Dark’, due October 23 via BMG.
Built around one of Iommi’s characteristic heavy guitar riffs, Stormwatcher features vocalist Jørn Lande, bassist Becky Baldwin and drummer Karl Brazil. The song has a maritime theme, using the image of a ship caught in a storm as a metaphor for navigating life’s struggles and uncertainties.
“It channels something from within, something real,” Lande says of the song. He describes its central image as being captain of your own vessel while continuing through unknown and challenging waters.

As co-founder and principal guitarist of Black Sabbath, Iommi played a central role in developing the heavy, riff-driven sound that became one of the foundations of heavy metal. His distinctive approach to the guitar remained at the heart of the band throughout its long career, from its influential early albums to ’13’ in 2013 and the subsequent farewell tour.
Stormwatcher continues that unmistakably riff-focused approach while looking ahead to Iommi’s new solo chapter. ‘From The Dark’ is his first full-length solo album since ‘Fused’ in 2005 and features Lande, who co-wrote all of the songs, alongside Baldwin and Brazil.
Iommi co-produced the album with his long-time collaborator Mike Exeter. The eight-track record will be released in several CD and vinyl configurations, with two additional tracks included on the deluxe CD edition.
