Robert Cray has announced the release of ‘All Over Again’, his first studio album in seven years. The nine-track collection is due out on 12 February 2027 and brings together blues, soul and rhythm & blues. Cray recorded the album at FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, alongside his longtime musical collaborator, drummer and producer Steve Jordan.
The album draws on Cray’s personal experiences and reflections on the current political climate in the United States. His childhood memories of Alabama, where he spent several months with his grandmother in 1960, also helped shape the material. During that time, he encountered segregated schools and water fountains, an experience he recalls as a world very different from the one he knew.
The first single, ‘Push Through’, was released on 21 October 2026 and immediately reveals the issues that are on Cray’s mind. The song addresses civil rights, voting rights and the importance of continuing to stand up for progress.
Cray refers to 1965, the year the US Voting Rights Act was passed. For him, this is not a distant chapter of history. He was twelve years old at the time and remembers what the struggle for equal rights meant to his family.
The song is part of a long tradition of blues and soul musicians who weave personal experiences and social events into their music. Music that seeks not only to entertain, but also to tell a story.
