Big Harp George returns with Death Rattle Of The Republic, a new single released on July 3, 2026 via Blues Mountain Records. The track offers the first taste of his forthcoming eighth album ‘No Shortcuts’, due September 18.
Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Big Harp George – real name George Bisharat – is a blues singer, songwriter and chromatic harmonica player. His background is anything but conventional: before establishing himself as a musician, Bisharat worked as a law professor and Middle East analyst. His songwriting frequently combines blues with sharp humour and social commentary.
That socially conscious side comes clearly to the foreground on Death Rattle Of The Republic. Described as an anthemic blues shuffle, the song takes inspiration from the traditional Battle Hymn of the Republic, but turns that reference toward contemporary political and social concerns.
The single was written by George Bisharat and produced by Chris Burns. Recording took place at Greaseland Studios in San Jose, California, with Kid Andersen handling the recording and Joe Tarantino the mastering.
Big Harp George handles vocals and harmonica, joined by Kid Andersen on guitar, Joe Kyle on bass and Derrick D’Mar Martin on drums and percussion. Aaron Lington, Doug Rowan and Mike Rinta provide the horn section, while The Morgan Brothers and Marcel Smith contribute background vocals.
Death Rattle Of The Republic is available now. The full No Shortcuts album follows on September 18, 2026.
