More than two decades into their career, The Datsuns continue to draw on the raw energy of garage rock, seventies hard rock and early rock ‘n’ roll. Their forthcoming album, ‘Moonstruck Man’, follows a period of personal setbacks, changes within the band and an unconventional recording process spread across different countries.
One of the most significant challenges involved guitarist Christian, who faced a lengthy recovery after a serious hand injury that required complex surgery. Following a year of rehabilitation, he was able to return to playing guitar and contribute to the band’s new material.
Meanwhile, Phil worked on guitar parts and rhythms from rural New Zealand, exchanging ideas with his bandmates overseas. Dolf, based in Scandinavia, developed riffs, arrangements and new material alongside fellow musicians.
The album also marks another change behind the drum kit. Swedish drummer Adam Lindmark, known for his work with Dead Lord, has joined The Datsuns, while several other Swedish drummers contributed to the recordings.
‘Moonstruck Man’ was recorded across several Swedish studios, including Studio Grondahl, Gold Halo, Kiki’s Castle, Livingstone Boudoirs and Riddarborgen.
Musically, the band continues to explore the territory between aggressive garage rock, proto-rock and melodic power pop, maintaining the guitar-driven approach that has characterised much of its catalogue.
The title track, Moonstruck Man, was the first single to introduce the album. Drawing on seventies hard rock, it features prominent wah-wah guitar, energetic solos and a sound influenced by classic guitar-driven rock.
The second single, Run From The Sun, released on September 18, moves towards heavier, more atmospheric territory. Built around a blues-influenced bass line and fuzz guitars, the song incorporates elements of desert rock and psychedelia.
With ‘Moonstruck Man’, The Datsuns prepare to release their eighth studio album on November 13, 2026, continuing a career built around energetic performances and a longstanding commitment to guitar-based rock ‘n’ roll.
