Jimi Hendrix’s legendary first performance at the Berkeley Community Theater from May 30, 1970, will be released in its complete running order for the first time as ‘Magic Boy: The Jimi Hendrix Experience Live at Berkeley (First Show)’.

Hendrix fans first became familiar with the Berkeley concerts through two early posthumous releases. Hear My Train A Comin’ appeared on Rainbow Bridge in 1971, while Johnny B. Goode was included on Hendrix: In The West in 1972. The 1971 film Jimi Plays Berkeley added further interest by featuring excerpts from Purple Haze and Star Spangled Banner.
Magic Boy brings those performances together and presents the first Berkeley show in its original running order. The release also includes Ezy Ryder and Freedom, heard here in versions dating from their development before they were completed in the studio, alongside Message To Love and Machine Gun from the recently released ‘Band Of Gypsys’ album.
The set also features Experience favourites including Fire and Voodoo Child (Slight Return). All of the recordings have been newly remixed by Eddie Kramer from the original multitrack tapes.
