Grey DeLisle will release her new album ‘Don’t Turn Around’ on October 23, 2026, via Hummin’bird Records. Produced by the late Andy Paley and completed by Marvin Etzioni, the eleven-track album draws from classic country, California roots music and rockabilly.
The songs on ‘Don’t Turn Around ‘ explore the different ways people leave one another and the roads they follow afterwards. Heartbreak and lingering memories run through the album, balanced by DeLisle’s humour and resilience.
There’s The Door takes inspiration from the classic country tradition associated with George Jones, while Dave Alvin joins DeLisle on the duet You’re Driving Me Away. Other songs include the darkly humorous The Lights Are Off But There’s Somebody’s Home and the barroom story Open Mic at the Stumble Inn.
DeLisle met Andy Paley while working as a voice actor on SpongeBob SquarePants. After discovering that she also wrote songs, Paley asked to hear some of her material. The song she played was Don’t Turn Around, marking the beginning of their creative partnership.
The pair began recording the album before Paley’s death in 2024. Marvin Etzioni subsequently completed the project.
The album features contributions from Deke Dickerson, Murry Hammond of Old 97’s, Stephen McCarthy of The Long Ryders, Greg Leisz, Chris Scruggs, Tammy Rogers, Bernie Dresel, Mandy Barnett and Mickey Raphael. Jake Gideon served as engineer and also contributed guitar and percussion.
