Bernard Allison, son of blues legend Luther Allison, established his own reputation on the international blues scene during the 1990s. His music is rooted in Chicago blues, while also incorporating elements of funk, R&B and rock. After more than three decades on the road and more than 20 albums, Allison turns his attention to collaboration on ‘Loving You’.
Guest musicians include guitarists Larry McCray, Devon Allman and Matthew Curry, pianist and vocalist Victor Wainwright and violinist Heather Hardy. Allison’s nephew Jasper and niece Lyndsey provide backing vocals, while guitarist Stephen Johnson, aka Stevie J Blues, co-wrote five of the album’s seven original songs. The rhythm section features bassist George Moye, drummer Sam Butts Jr III and keyboardist Eric Roberts.
The ten tracks move between blues, funk, R&B and rock. Highlights from the guest collaborations include Victor Wainwright on 4 O’Clock In The Morning (Waiting On You), Larry McCray and Matthew Mwangi on Time Traveler, Matthew Curry on Rock & Roll Hoochie Koo, and Devon Allman on the title track Loving You. The album closes with Blues Thang, a funk-infused blues track that brings Allison’s musical influences together.
