Release date: October 16, 2026
Dutch singer-songwriter Mariecke Borger returns with ten new songs that bring together folk, Americana and intimate songwriting. The album marks a new chapter in her musical journey, with the title ‘Unravel’ serving as a thread connecting the songs.
The songs originated during an inspired period in autumn, when Borger began writing at the piano. Over the following year, she and her husband Floris de Vries developed the material into the finished album. De Vries also co-produced the record and recorded it at Studio Vrieborg.
The arrangements feature a broad group of musicians, including pedal steel player Keenan Schuck, fiddler Sietse van Gorkom, bassist Sebastiaan van Olst, drummer Mischa Porte, electric guitarist Milo Groenhuizen, keyboard player Gertjan van de Weerd, banjo player Floris de Vries and mandolin player Kylie Kay Anderson. Bertolf Lentink contributes dobro.
Borger, who is now based in Kampen, has spent two decades developing a sound rooted in alternative folk, Americana and personal storytelling. ‘Unravel’ moves between brighter compositions and more melancholic reflections while keeping the songs at the centre of the arrangements.
