With ‘Sweetheart of the Rodeo’, Israel Nash turns to the music of The Byrds’ 1968 album of the same name. The original record marked a major step towards country rock. Nash draws on its songs for his own tribute, placing them in a different order and giving the project his own title for track nine, Blue Mountain Rockies.
The album opens with Pretty Boy Floyd, followed by Hickory Wind and You Ain’t Going Nowhere. Elsewhere, Nash takes on You Don’t Miss Your Water and Nothing Was Delivered, before closing with Life In Prison. It is a songbook closely connected to the country influences that have long been part of Nash’s Americana work. israelnash.bandcamp.com
Nash released the digital album on September 25, 2026. Vinyl and CD editions are also listed; the supplied UK retailer Badlands currently gives October 9, 2026 as its release date for those physical editions.
