After an eight-year wait for a new studio album, British guitarist and singer-songwriter Ben Poole returns with ‘Empty’, the second single from his forthcoming album Post-Midnight Behaviour. Released on July 31 via Gypsy Soul Records, the track offers an exciting preview of a record that promises to showcase a broader and more mature side of one of Britain’s most respected blues-rock artists.

Over the past decade, Poole has earned an impressive reputation through relentless touring and electrifying live performances across Europe and beyond. Known for his exceptional guitar playing, he has shared stages with some of the biggest names in blues and rock. However, ‘Empty’ reveals that his greatest strength may now lie in his songwriting as much as in his musicianship.

According to Poole, the song played a crucial role in shaping the direction of the new album. From the very beginning, he wanted to create music that balanced darkness with optimism, allowing emotional contrasts to drive both the lyrics and the arrangements. That vision is reflected throughout the single, which gradually builds from intimate verses into a powerful and uplifting chorus.

Rather than relying solely on blazing guitar solos, ‘Empty’ places atmosphere and emotion at the heart of the performance. Every musical detail has been carefully considered, resulting in a song that feels both personal and expansive. Poole describes it as one of the strongest compositions he has written to date, following months of refining the lyrics, melodies and overall production with his songwriting team.

The recording also highlights Poole’s meticulous approach to guitar tone. Most of the rhythm and lead parts were recorded using his trusted Gibson Les Paul, combined with a vintage Mosrite Fuzzrite pedal from the 1960s. The result is a warm, expressive sound that effortlessly moves between delicate passages and moments of raw intensity, perfectly supporting the emotional narrative of the song.

Post-Midnight Behaviour, scheduled for release on September 25, marks Poole’s first full studio album of original material since Anytime You Need Me in 2018. Although several live albums have appeared in recent years, the guitarist deliberately took his time with this project, aiming to create a collection of songs that fully reflects his artistic development.

Years of performing more than 150 shows annually across over twenty countries have broadened Poole’s musical outlook. While blues rock remains the foundation of his sound, the new album also embraces elements of soul, country and alternative rock. The emphasis is no longer solely on technical brilliance, but equally on melody, storytelling and emotional depth.

With ‘Empty’, Ben Poole demonstrates that artistic growth does not require leaving the blues behind. Instead, he expands its boundaries, combining thoughtful songwriting with the guitar work that first established his reputation. The result is a compelling introduction to an album that could become one of the defining releases of his career.
