This has been a very productive year for the psychedelic, power blues trio DeWolff, as they released a wonderful studio album called ‘Muscle Shoals’ earlier this year and on the last day of October DeWolff released the ‘Live on 2 Meter Session’ album. Furthermore, DeWolff have just released a new EP called ‘Fuego!,’ but although it is a new album (EP), the tracks are all covers and these songs are a tribute to their musical heroes.
This “steaming” and powerful EP kicks off with Judgment Day, originally a Redbone song, and it is indeed a fantastic opener, highlighting everything that makes DeWolff so special. Next up is Roll Away The Stone, a Leon Russell track and this DeWolff cover rocks and rolls for 100%, and I would almost say: mister Russell eat your heart out, as this version is hugely impressive.
The Little Feat cover The Fan is the absolute highlight of this EP, featuring expert guitarist Joe Bonamassa and this is blues as you want to hear it! Fire And Water, a Free cover, is another formidable track of this EP, although the vocals of Paul Rodgers on the original version are slightly better, perhaps?
The instrumental Eden Rose cover Faster And Faster is a maniac organ mayhem amazingly played by Robin Piso and the last medley, consisting of Fire And Brimstone, Hawg Frog and Walk On Gilded Splinters, is the second highlight of this EP.
These three guys from the South of The Netherlands know how to play the blues for sure, just listen and enjoy, as Fuego! is again another milestone in the career of DeWolff.
