Vocalist Graham Bonnet is of course known as the former singer of Rainbow, MSG, Alcatrazz and Impellitteri. The Graham Bonnet Band released their debut album in 2016 and now this notorious shouter releases a “new” live album, recorded at the Whisky A-Go-Go on the 29th of August 2024 and of course the setlist contains well-known tracks from the aforementioned bands and a couple of hard-hitting originals from the Graham Bonnet Band catalogue.
This LA gig opens with Eyes Of The World, a Rainbow song from the ‘Down To Earth album’ (1979), followed by another classic track from that album, being All Night Long; both tracks showcase Bonnet’s still strong and raw voice and these are both more than excellent hard rock anthems to start the show with indeed. Of course, the audience is also treated to the other Rainbow hit single Since You’ve Been Gone, composed by Russ Ballard and also from that successful fourth Rainbow album.
The title track of the Michael Schenker Group’s third album is also a strong track on this live album, with again iconic vocals by Bonnet and great guitar work by Conrado Pesinato; from this MSG album the Desert Song is also on this setlist.
Too Young To Die, Too Drunk To Live is of course a well-known Alcatrazz song, while the instrumental Deep Purple cover of Lazy is indeed quite a pleasant surprise. However, the drum solo and the keyboard solo are utterly superfluous, but the final track of the setlist, another Rainbow classic, Lost In Hollywood, is again a great rock classic with more than excellent singing by Bonnet indeed.
This album is a great journey through Bonnet’s remarkable career, featuring a couple of hard rock classics as only Bonnet can perform; needless to say, you have to play this album LOUD!
