Single I Davide Pannozzo – The Subway Song

Musically, it’s a modern blues song built around a groove that feels like the city itself: relentless, rhythmic, alive

New York runs on a grid above ground. Below, it’s something else entirely

“The Subway Song” is a tribute to New York City — to the memories, the freedom, and the human connection you find underground. The subway is where strangers share a moment, where musicians play for no one and everyone, where the city strips itself down to something real. I’ve always been drawn to that energy, and this track is my way of capturing it.

Musically, it’s a modern blues song built around a groove that feels like the city itself: relentless, rhythmic, alive. On this track I’m joined by two musicians I deeply admire: Etienne Stadwijk on keyboards and bass synth — a world-class artist whose harmonic sensibility brings a cinematic depth to everything he touches — and Steve Ferrone on drums. Steve is one of the most legendary drummers in the world, known for his work with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Eric Clapton, Chaka Khan, and many more. Having him on this record is something I still can’t quite believe. I play vocals and guitar, and the track was produced by Etienne and me.
