‘Transmissions’ is the fifth album of the English extraordinary cinematic sludge metal foursome Telepathy. The band was formed fourteen years ago by the Polish brothers Piotr (guitars, synthesizers), Albert (drums) and Krystian (bass guitar) Turek, alongside British guitar picker Richard Powley and their instrumental music, highly recommended for fans of Deftones and Tool, could be best described as cinematic, atmospheric post metal.

Opening track Oath set the tone with a thunderous, crunchy riff, evolving into impressive guitar textures, mixed with, at least for me, superfluous radio samples. Follow up Augury contains beautiful, rather light arpeggios, giving this track a more mellow groove and melody, while it also sounds more and more cinematic when the song progresses. Knife Edge Effect, again with radio voices, is the second shortest song of the album and it features lots of electronics and industrial musical elements galore.

Tears In The Fibre, the first of two epic tracks here, clocks in over fourteen minutes, and it is filled with soaring harmonies and lots of dark passages which truly remind me of cult bands like Deftones and especially Tool.

Next up is A Silent Bridge, which is actually not a real song, as this interlude of almost two minutes, only reprises the radio broadcast; however, it is probably the intro to the epic metal monster called End Transmission. This stand out song, clocking in over fifteen minutes is a 100% post metal rollercoaster, packed with heavy riffs, hooks and lots of atmospheric piano passages.

‘Transmissions’ ends with a song called Home, an almost light, upbeat track, where the grinding guitars and the crashing of the drums set the tone; before it ends with radio bleeps and electronics.

Conclusion: ‘Transmissions’ is Telepathy’s best album so far, a simply stunning album that is utterly dynamic, immersive, and very skilfully crafted indeed!
