Hollow Souls is a band put together by no one less than Kris Barras, a leading light of the young British blues rock music scene, and besides Barras (guitar, vocals) Hollow Souls features Joe Harris (drums), Leighton Allen (bass guitar), and Phoebe Jane (lead vocals). Their first album, an EP, features six songs of which four have already been released as a single.
Borderline opens this EP and what an opening track it is; indeed, the explosion of blues rock guitar solos from Barras and guest player, US blues rock rising star Jared James Nichols make this song a highlight of this album indeed. Follow up Bad Things, features Chris Tapp (The Cold Stares) and that one has a kind of retro feeling, while I Need The Fire is an impressive melodic hard rocker.
Burn It To The Ground, the fourth single from this EP features English blues roots rock singer Elles Bailey, and it is a raunchy, crispy blues rock song for sure. Next up Shotgun, featuring Jon Marv Harvey of the notorious Monster Truck, is a vintage heavy southern blues rock track with some outstanding guitar picking indeed.
Finally, after these five, short blues rockers, Hollow Souls ends this EP with Chasing Ghosts, which is a slow song with melodic piano passages and excellent guitar work.
Sad but true, then it is already over and done with this excellent album, and these six great songs leave me wanting more indeed!!
