Stephen Wilson Jr. released his new single “Hardwired” on July 31, 2026. The track features Miranda Lambert and combines Americana, alternative country and roots rock with a narrative centred on working-class resilience.

Written by Wilson Jr., Jesse Frasure, Adam Hood and Lambert, “Hardwired” portrays people whose lives are shaped by physical labour, uncertainty and the need to keep moving forward. The recording is driven by Wilson Jr.’s distinctive acoustic guitar playing and rough-edged vocal delivery, with Lambert adding a contrasting second voice.

Towards the end, the song incorporates a recognisable passage from “Where Is My Mind?”, the 1988 alternative-rock classic by The Pixies. The unexpected interpolation reflects Wilson Jr.’s broad musical background and takes the track beyond conventional country territory.

An accompanying video, directed by Jace Kartye, was released alongside the single. Its dark and atmospheric imagery follows the tone and subject matter of the song.

“Hardwired” follows “Gary (Live From CMA Fest 2026)” and the recent single “Preacher’s Kid”. Born in southern Indiana and now based in Nashville, Wilson Jr. previously worked as a scientist and played guitar in an indie rock band. In 2023, he signed with Big Loud Records and released his 22-track debut double album søn of dad, combining country, folk, rock and Americana with personal stories about family, loss and resilience.

Since then, Wilson Jr. has appeared on programmes including Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Howard Stern Show and Later… with Jools Holland. He also received a CMA Award nomination for New Artist of the Year and won the ACM Award for Visual Media of the Year for the video to “Cuckoo”.
