British blues-rock artist Joanne Shaw Taylor has released “Bad Boy,” a fiery and emotionally charged new single from her forthcoming studio album The Trouble With Love, due October 23rd via Journeyman Records.
Driven by Taylor’s unmistakable guitar playing and one of her boldest vocal performances to date, “Bad Boy” explores the magnetic pull of a relationship that is both thrilling and destructive. The swaggering blues-rock track follows its narrator through heartbreak, frustration and, ultimately, a hard-won sense of independence.
“Sometimes love is thrilling and destructive at the same time,” Joanne explains. “I wrote this song about those intense, complicated relationships.”
Throughout the song, vulnerability gradually gives way to defiance. Rather than remaining trapped in regret, the narrator finally stops waiting for someone else to change and takes control of her own story. As a result, “Bad Boy” develops into an empowering anthem about resilience, confidence and reclaiming your own identity after a toxic relationship has run its course.
The single offers another glimpse of Joanne’s forthcoming album The Trouble With Love, produced by renowned producer Kevin Shirley, whose credits include Led Zeppelin, The Black Crowes, Aerosmith and Joe Bonamassa.
On the new record, Joanne dives headfirst into the beautiful chaos of the human heart. Across ten tracks, she examines love in all its different forms: the reckless kind that sweeps you off your feet, the quiet kind that provides stability, the kind that breaks you apart and the kind that eventually puts you back together.
Musically, the album combines blues rock, soul, Americana and classic rock, while allowing Joanne to present some of her most personal and emotionally expansive songwriting to date.
“Bad Boy” follows a series of singles that have each revealed a different part of the album’s emotional journey.
The title track, “The Trouble With Love,” featuring Joe Bonamassa, explored the intoxicating highs and painful lows of romance. “What Good Is My Love?”, featuring Orianthi, confronted the heartache of affection that is not returned.
Elsewhere, “Hell Or High Water” delivered a defiant message of perseverance and self-belief, while “This Is Who I Am” reflected on acceptance and self-worth. “Tired Of Being Right” captured the difficult realisation that sometimes love alone is not enough to save a relationship.
Together, the songs point towards one of Joanne Shaw Taylor’s most varied and complete artistic statements so far.
Produced by Kevin Shirley, The Trouble With Love continues the musical development heard on Joanne’s previous album Black & Gold. Instead of telling one continuous story, the new album examines relationships and emotional connection from a range of different perspectives.
The songs move confidently between powerful blues rock, soulful melodies, Americana influences and classic-rock dynamics, held together by Joanne’s distinctive voice, expressive songwriting and commanding guitar work.
The release arrives during another busy touring year for Joanne Shaw Taylor. Following her summer dates across the United States, she will return to the road for her Fall 2026 tour, visiting the Southwest, Mountain West, Pacific Northwest and California.
