Canadian singer-songwriter Erin McCallum has released her new album, Full Spread. Featuring nine original compositions, the record highlights her distinctive songwriting while drawing inspiration from blues, Americana, folk, country, R&B and roots music.
Rather than adhering to a single style, McCallum delivers a collection of songs that places storytelling and emotion at the centre of each performance.
Built around a “message first” philosophy, Full Spread explores themes that resonate with everyday life.
McCallum’s heartfelt vocals are supported by strong arrangements, memorable grooves and accomplished musicianship, creating an album that balances lyrical depth with musical variety.
The album moves comfortably between genres. You Have It All carries clear R&B influences, Lost Myself Loving You leans towards country, while Good, Good News blends a New Orleans feel with a distinctive Bo Diddley-inspired rhythm.
Elsewhere, songs such as The Big Shout and Broken Lies combine traditional roots influences with a contemporary sound that will appeal to fans of blues, Americana, folk and modern roots music.
Two tracks, I’m Still Here (For Now) and I Need A New Lover, were co-written with acclaimed Canadian blues guitarist Teddy Leonard, McCallum’s longtime musical collaborator.
Their creative partnership is evident throughout both songs. Released as a single in May 2026, I Need A New Lover has since received radio airplay and streaming support in Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia.
Another highlight is Good Intentions, a rock-influenced song addressing the frustration of being misunderstood despite good intentions, with Leonard adding expressive slide guitar.
The album closes with an acoustic version of Home, one of McCallum’s best-known songs, offering a fresh interpretation that reflects both her artistic development and the lasting quality of her songwriting.
Full Spread was co-produced by Erin McCallum and Teddy Leonard and recorded at Ganaraska Recording Company. Award-winning musician and producer Jimmy Bowskill served as recording engineer while also contributing pedal steel and backing vocals.
The album was mixed by Steve Marriner, with mastering by Philip Shaw Bova. Additional performances by Gary Craig and Steve O’Connor complete a production that showcases the depth of McCallum’s musical vision.
With Full Spread, Erin McCallum presents a confident and carefully crafted collection of songs that reflects her broad musical influences while remaining firmly rooted in contemporary roots music.
