Acclaimed American roots artist Buddy Miller will release his long-awaited new solo album, Buddy Miller, on September 11. The 12-track collection marks his first solo release in fifteen years and follows In the Throes, his critically acclaimed 2023 collaboration with his wife, Julie Miller.
The album features an outstanding lineup of guest artists, including Emmylou Harris, The War & Treaty, Lee Ann Womack, Shawn Colvin, Ashley Monroe, Elizabeth Cook, Jim Lauderdale, Dan Penn, and Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams.
Miller is backed by a stellar core band consisting of Fred Eltringham (drums and percussion), Viktor Krauss (bass), Tim Lauer (keyboards), Steve Fishell (pedal steel), and frequent appearances by The McCrary Sisters. Together, they deliver a rich blend of country soul, gospel, early rock ‘n’ roll, and heartfelt Americana.
The album’s first preview is Don’t Look Back, a soulful interpretation of the Smokey Robinson classic performed as a duet with legendary songwriter Dan Penn. Originally recorded by The Temptations and later turned into a reggae hit by Peter Tosh and Mick Jagger, the song receives a fresh and deeply emotional treatment from Miller and Penn.
Combining breathtaking ballads, rootsy rockers, outstanding musicianship, and carefully selected cover songs, Buddy Miller promises to be another essential release from one of Americana’s most respected artists.
