Baba Sissoko & Mediterranean Blues – No War
Format: CD
Label: Phonotype Record
Release: 2026
The historic Phonotype label is releasing the new album by the popular Afro-Calabrian musician. A blend of blues, rock, soul, and Afrobeat, bound by the Malian tradition and the desire for peace.
The heart of Africa. The heart of rock. The heart of blues. All united by the Mediterranean. Nine electrifying, fiery songs, the fruit of a synthesis of languages and stories, united by the Maestro’s vast experience, the groove unleashed by the group, and the theme of peace. This is the new adventure of Baba Sissoko & Mediterranean Blues with ‘No War’, the brand-new album by the Malian musician’s band, released by Phonotype, Italy’s oldest record label.
Mediterranean Blues is a clear indication of Baba Sissoko’s powerful, raspy voice, an upbeat rhythm reminiscent of Afro-American notes (re)emerging from Jamaica, and a lethal assist from harmonicas that generously infuses blues spice throughout the enchanting musical flow. This is nothing new for Baba, always prolific in his projects of contamination and collaborations, but with Mediterranean Blues there is stability and strength in generous doses: in 2017 the group’s eponymous live, in 2021 the sequel Mali Music Has No Borders, now this new operation recorded in Naples (the historic and authoritative Auditorium Novecento) entitled No War and recorded over two days in November 2024.
