Award Winning Blues Rock Band Catfish’s 29 Year Old Lead Singer Matt Long Loses His Cancer Battle

Message from the Long family

Our hearts are breaking
We lost our kind, funny, wonderful, talented son and Catfish frontman/guitarist Matthew Long to cancer. He was just 29.

Matthew was overwhelmed by the love and support he received from the music community – thank you to all the incredible artists who took part in the many benefit gigs across the country, and to those of you who organised and attended them. Thank you to all those of you who donated to the Gofundme crowdfunder and those who pledged on the auction of music memorabilia.

This gave him funds to access additional drugs and treatment not available on the NHS, which helped extend Matt’s life. We will be forever grateful to each and every one of you who contributed.

Matthew really wanted to live, and we tried everything available to us to try to save him, but sadly the cancer was just too aggressive and fast moving for the chemo. He passed peacefully with his soulmate Sam and his family at his bedside.

Matthew wrote a song called ‘Archangel’ when his Nana passed a few years ago. I can’t think of a more appropriate way to say how we all feel right now.

Goodbye, our beautiful boy.
