After more than six decades in music, Dave Hill, best known as the founding guitarist of British rock band Slade, has released his debut solo album, ‘Dirty Foot Lane’.
Released on October 30, 2026, the ten-track collection presents a different side of the musician, moving beyond the energetic glam rock associated with his former band.
Blending rock, blues, folk and atmospheric arrangements, the album draws on Hill’s personal experiences, family memories and lifelong relationship with music.
Its themes range from childhood ambitions and the excitement of performing to loss, mental health and the challenges of the lockdown years.
The album takes its name from a road near Hill’s childhood home in Wolverhampton. The title track reflects on his upbringing and the experiences that shaped his life, while other songs revisit important relationships and moments from his career.
Hill worked on the album with producer and musician Django Holder, the son of former Slade frontman Noddy Holder. Longtime collaborator John Berry and producer Rob Childs also contributed to the recordings.
With ‘Dirty Foot Lane’, Hill turns his attention to personal songwriting and musical influences that extend beyond his familiar rock background. The result is a solo project built around ten songs that connect his past with his present.
Tracks:
01. Thanks For The Good Times
02. Back In The Air Again
03. Dust My Axe
04. She Had A Troubled Heart
05. Sweet And Tender
06. Fast Train
07. Only Fools And Horses
08. Play It To The Crowd
