Johnny Ray steps out under his own name with Free My Soul, a heavy, melodic song about finding your way out of survival mode.
Best known as the vocalist of The Mourning and 3 Headed Snake, the Florida musician takes a more personal approach on his debut solo single. The lyrics describe the moment someone realises they have spent too long simply getting through each day and need to start paying attention to themselves again.
The song began with music written by Shane Madere and Lance Jarreau, both former vocal students of Ray. Madere also produced the track, while Ray wrote the lyrics and handled the vocals and vocal production.
