The War On Drugs have released ‘Who’s That’, a richly layered new single written and produced by frontman Adam Granduciel. The song reportedly came together in just ten minutes and explores the struggle to love yourself despite anxiety, depression and self-doubt.
Musically, ‘Who’s That’ carries the band’s familiar blend of indie rock, heartland rock and americana. Piano, guitars, keyboards and atmospheric textures gradually build towards an uplifting extended outro. Alex Fischel of Spoon contributes piano to the recording.
The accompanying video, directed by Max Flick, follows Granduciel on a late-night walk through Burbank. Although the band has been working on new material, a new album has not yet been officially announced.
Fans may already recognise the song from recent live performances, but this release marks its official studio debut. Although Granduciel has previously indicated that work on new material is progressing, The War On Drugs have not yet officially announced a new album.
