Yonder Boys is a Berlin-based Americana band that isn’t afraid of breaking convention, whether oscillating between crazed banjo melodies and intricate fingerstyle guitar or interspersing their songs with Sicilian chants and Beach Boys harmonies. Even their lyrics defy categorisation, ranging from abstract and cynical to descriptive and melancholic.
None of the band members are German – David Stewart Ingleton (vocals, banjo) is Australian, Jason Serious (vocals, guitar) is American and Tomás Peralta (vocals, mandolin, lap steel, banjo, bass) hails from Chile.
While performing on traditional folk instruments, they show great depth in the variety of influences they bring to the genre, drawing on traditional old-time and Americana, interspersed with rock, Latin, pop and psychedelic influences.
Yonder Boys debut album Acid Folk was recorded in Berlin in 2019 and 2020 on analogue 8 Track at Blue Whale Recordings by Yonder Boys very own Tomás Peralta! The raw tapes were then sent off to Flora Recording & Playback in Portland, Oregon and mixed by world renowned producer Tucker Martine (The Decemberists, First Aid Kit, REM, Mudhoney, The Punch Brothers, Gregory Alan Isakov and Death Cab for Cutie).
The album title, Acid Folk, was inspired by the psychedelic feel the band’s ideas and experiments contributed to the overall sound. Each song is its own individual universe – Americana, bluegrass-influenced banjo driven numbers, 60’s Beach Boys influences and Sicilian chants.
Yonder Boys come from different continents and all met and now live in Germany. Hence the name of the band: all three have ventured far from their homes to perform and live in Europe. Since forming in 2018 they have performed as support for Billy Bragg, The Wood Brothers, Timber Timbre, Other Lives and Nathaniel Rateliff.
