Spotlight On: Luca Holkenborg (16)

His great love for artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Buddy Guy will be well known by now

As a little boy Luca Holkenborg (from Kerkrade) listened to the blues with his grandfather! At the age of two, he was on stage with his toy guitar next to Danny Bryant. In 2017, he attended a Dana Fuchs concert with his grandfather, and after that, Luca knew for sure he wanted to make blues music.

At the age of ten, Luca finally made the decision. He started guitar lessons and bought his first guitar. At 12, he joined John Primer & The Real Deal Bluesband on stage at The Southern Blues Night. This was his first time playing in front of an audience. Things took off quickly after that! He shared the stage with several well-known blues musicians, including John Primer, Danny Bryant, Toby Lee, Magic Frankie, and Leif de Leeuw. And recently he jammed with Ally Venable in Germany.

He also played at several major venues and festivals, such as Bospop, the Culemborg Blues Festival, Schöppingen Blues, Brielle Blues, and Swing Wespelaar.

At the age of 15, he received the Young Blues Talent Award 2024 at the Dutch Blues Challenge. The Dutch Blues Foundation: “He can easily compete in guitar battles with the great musicians.” His great love for artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Buddy Guy will be well known by now.
