Single I Ken Whiteley – So Glad I’m Here
Ken Whiteley Releases ‘So Glad I’m Here’
with Sufi master musician Davod Azad
Ken Whiteley is one of Canada’s most respected roots musicians with a long list of accolades including a Canadian Folk Music Award, 7 Juno nominations, a Genie Award for Best Song in a Canadian film and Lifetime Achievement Awards from Folk Music Ontario, the Mariposa Folk Festival and the Maple Blues Awards. He has a long history of collaboration with some of the best folk, blues and gospel performers, recording with Blind John Davis, The Campbell Brothers, Stan Rogers, Tom Paxton and Guy Davis and sharing stages with Pete Seeger and the Blind Boys of Alabama.
He breaks new ground on his latest recording, pairing up with master Iranian Sufi musician Davod Azad. The first single from these sessions is Whiteley’s adaptation of a traditional Georgia Sea Island song, So Glad I’m Here, an upbeat chorus song that rocks with Ken’s vocals, guitar and accordion, Davod’s tar and Chris Whiteley’s harmonica. This recording celebrates connection: between musicians of different cultures, being in the moment and in that moment feeling the presence of the divine. Share the journey and the joy.
