Danish pianist Søren Bebe is, together with his Trio, one of the torchbearers of Scandinavian jazz. Playing all over the world Bebe already has made a name for himself.

After releasing his highly acclaimed sixth album ‘Echoes’ in 2019 (actually to be purchased for free through www.sorenbebe.com!) Bebe moved from Copenhagen out in the country, a move that is certainly to be heard in his music.

Where ‘Echoes’ is jazzy and upbeat, ‘Now Here,’ Søren Bebe Trio‘s seventh album, recorded in 2023 and out now, is full of delicate melodies, melancholy and subtlety. The album is nominated for the Danish Music Awards in the category Jazz already.

With his bandmates Kasper Tagel (upright bass) and Norwegian Knut Finsrud (drums), Bebe paints ten beautiful images of silent beauty that evokes memories of the work of Keith Jarrett and even of French modern classical composer Erik Satie.

Tangeri is a delicate rumba-like piece featuring bass player Kasper Tagel and is followed by the very melodic Grateful. Misha on the other hand is a romantic piece built around a classic theme. Tagel again is featured on the pastoral Be Well, which leads to the cheerful folk of Folksy (To Jan).

The album closes off with two Satie-like pieces, with in between the driving jazzy Summer. The two Satie-like tracks, the subtle, melancholic Day By Day and the pastoral On And On form the highlight of this beautiful piano jazz album.

‘Here Now’ by The Søren Bebe Trio is a very fine jazz album, in which this trio shows a very gallant approach to piano music.
