As a matter of fact, I really like/cherish some good AOR music, think Journey, Steve Perry, Giant or even Foreigner, but after listening to Rob Moratti’s new album Sovereign I do not think that this is the AOR I really like.

Rob Moratti is a Canadian singer who was frontman and lead vocalist of the notorious cult band Saga from 2008 till 2011, and ‘Sovereign’ is his sixth studio album. Without further ado I can truly state that is it just a new Moratti album without any innovative ideas, as the songs featured on ‘Sovereign’ truly lack originality and freshness indeed.

Most, in fact all songs, feature too sweet melodies, too corny vocals and too cliché lyrics and song titles indeed! Guitarist Joel Hoekstra (Whitesnake) does a decent job, as some of his guitar solos are the true highlights of this mediocre album with too many ballads for sure!

The highlights would be stand out songs like: Don’t Give Up On Love, Locked Down and Can’t Let You Go, but the album as a whole is not going to bring down the heavens. Only advisable for die hard AOR fans, who like Shy or Phenomena!
