Orianthi’s sixth studio album ‘Some Kind Of Feeling’ contains nine original songs and one cover, being ZZ Top’s swampy, Texas swinging Sharp Dressed Man. The singer/songwriter, but most of all critically acclaimed guitarist from Down Under, produced three songs herself, while the other seven songs are produced by no one less than Kevin Shirley.
The first single of the album Attention is a wonderful pop/rock anthem, featuring an addictive catchy chorus, but the highlight of the song is of course the soaring guitar solo. The first gem on this album is called What I’ve Been Looking For; an emotional slow ballad-like track packed with extremely well played guitar solos that give me goosebumps every time I listen to this song. Another anchor song of ‘Some Kind Of Feeling’ is Ghost, being the second ballad of this album, this one features emotional/heartfelt vocals, beautiful piano passages and of course great guitar playing.
On First Time Blues Orianthi is joined by Joe Bonamassa and it is a wonderful blues rock track with of course impressive guitar solos, riffs, and hooks; needless to say, that you must play this track at maximum volume! ‘Some Kind Of Feeling’ ends with the acoustic guitar driven, “corny” bittersweet love song Heaven Right Here.
Overall, ‘Some Kind Of Feeling’ is a great album, although the compositions are not that spectacular, but Orianthi’s guitar playing compensates that for more than 100% for sure; this woman can play a mean guitar!!! Orianthi’s new album is a musical mix of pop, rock, blues, and blues rock and stands out due to the phenomenal guitar picking of Orianthi Panagaris!
