‘Echo’ is My Baby’s sixth studio album, and the new songs of this Dutch/New Zealand trio are again a blend of blues, psychedelic, funk, trance, roots and eclectic rock music. The sound of their new album is cinematic and vibrant; and frontwoman, bass player Cato van Dijck sings truly intoxicating.

The last song of ‘Echo,’ called Lighting is my favourite track of the album, as it is a raw blues song, also featuring electronic trance beats, pulsating rhythms, swirling guitars, essential vocals and hypnotic soundscapes. Ain’t No Turning Back is an up-tempo song with dominant bass guitar and drums, while Siren Song features heartfelt vocals and that typical My Baby guitar sound.

RU4Real is a very experimental track, featuring house elements mixed with slide guitar, making this one rather special indeed. Smiley Virus – nice title by the way – is again an up-tempo song and the bluesy Queens Lament, with lead vocals by Daniel de Vries is also one of the best songs of the album.

So, My Baby, truly did it again as ‘Echo’ is a wonderful, diverse album, but the music of this extraordinary trio is at its best when the band is on stage; playing in the flesh for a huge crowd, as songs like Smiley Virus and Lighting are best enjoyed LOUD and live at a festival ground.
