‘Antiquity Neon’ is Mark Bogert’s, one of the best Dutch guitarists ever, third solo album and without further ado I can say that it is his best one by far….
Way back in 2016 I reviewed Bogert’s second solo album ‘Painting The World,’ and I really loved that guitar-driven instrumental album, but ‘Antiquity Neon’ highlights an even better guitar picker; indeed; man, this guy can play a mean guitar for sure. Think, Satriani meets Vai, meets Becker and Friedman and you know what to expect on this fabulous album.
The first single of ‘Antiquity Neon,’ called Mercury Glow (featuring the notorious Stu Hamm on bass guitar) sets the tone for this album, displaying Bogert’s guitar versatility and tapping technique in this ballad-like track with a goosebump guitar melody/line. The opening track Thermal Properties is a funky song, featuring fast solos, great arpeggios, and again beautiful guitar melodies.
So, after two magical guitar instrumentals I was already addicted to this amazing new album by the best metal guitarist of the Benelux; but there was more…. Future Invention and Artistic Shapes are two more wonderful tracks packed with Satch-like goosebumps melodies/solos, impressive hooks, riffs, and arpeggios galore, with Bogert’s guitar taking on the role of lead vocals.
Need I say more? Probably not, as Bogert lets his guitar do the talking for 100%, making ‘Antiquity Neon’ a MUST for guitar lovers, as Mark shows that he is THE best Dutch guitar player ever; Satch and Vai can eat their heart out for sure.
Play it LOUD, but do NOT try to play along on your air guitar as Mark’s guitar picking is too impressive and versatile to copy…. The only “bad” thing about Antiquity Neon is the fact that it is TOO bloody short!!
