‘Live At The Greek,’ recorded during magical rock and roll nights in October 1999 at The Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre and Jones Beach in August 1999, is unquestionably one of the best live albums I have ever heard; chock full of Led Zeppelin classics, celebratory cover versions and Black Crowes classics indeed.
Now, to celebrate twenty-five years of that iconic album The Black Crowes and Page have “returned” with the Live At The Greek 25th Anniversary Edition, containing the full show, including over fifteen unreleased songs and all the Black Crowes tracks that have never been released before. This “new” super live album opens furiously with three Led Zeppelin classics, being: Celebration Day, Custard Pie and Sick Again and the tone is set for a remarkable, iconic album indeed.
The band sounds incredible, Page’s guitar playing is second to none and Crowes lead singer Chris Robinson delivers a stellar performance. Just like on the original 2000 edition you can enjoy a selection of Zeppelin “hits” like In My Time Of Dying, The Lemon Song, Whole Lotta Love, but on this new edition you are also treated to other LZ gems like Misty Mountain Hop, Your Time Is Gonna Come and Bring It On Home. However, what mainly separates the original live album from this new release, are the Black Crowes originals, like: Remedy (fantastic), Hard To Handle (Otis Redding cover), No Speak No Slave and their chart topping hit She Talks To Angels, featuring Page’s masterful use of his signature B-bender guitar.
This 25th Anniversary edition ends with a series of tracks from the soundcheck, before the album explodes with a ten-minute jam session called Jams, a never-before released track written by Page and Robinson during a soundcheck.
So, there you have it, one of the greatest live albums of all time, reissued and it is even better than the original one; love it indeed. Live At The Greek 25th Anniversary is an essential album for your rock collection; buy or die and play it LOUD to wake up all the neighbours!!
