Solomon Cole – Ain’t Got Time To Die

Solomon Cole – Ain’t Got Time To Die
Format: CD – Digital
Label: DixieFrog Records
Release: 2025
Release date: October 10, 2025
Are we dealing with the unlikely offspring of Lloyd Cole and Solomon Burke? Solomon Cole is clearly leaning more towards Tom Waits, Watermelon Slim and Howlin’ Wolf
Already the author of “Bruise” (released nine years ago under the title of the Solomon Cole Band), this singer-songwriter and guitarist from Waiheke (New Zealand) makes his entry into the Dixiefrog catalog with this album produced by Eddie Rayner, ex-keyboard player of Split Enz and Crowded House (already mentioned HERE on the occasion of the recent release of BB & The Bullets).
Without the credits indicating any other intervention than his own, we can still clearly distinguish here and there female choirs (this “Bullet” reminiscent of Jorma Kaukonen and surrounded by a string arrangement, or even “A Little South Of Heaven”, “Apochryphal Flood Blues” and the title track), but most often raw and seminal, the production translates the unvarnished personality of a potential hermit. From “Day Of Reckoning” to “Call My Maker”, Solomon Cole thus builds a new bridge between the preachin’ blues of Son House and Skip James (“Get Up Get On”) and the cursed legacy of Coco Robicheaux and Ramblin’ Jeffrey Lee Pierce (“Woman I Weep”). Note: the indicated set list swaps the sixth and seventh tracks. Will you be able to recognize them?
