I’d like to introduce you to New Valley String Band, a Swedish trio that approaches American Appalachian old-time music with a distinctly Scandinavian sensibility. Their new album, “Of Tales And Lies,” will be released on February 14th, and will be supported in the Benelux and Germany by JohTheMa PROMOTIONS.

New Valley String Band explicitly steers clear of nostalgic reconstruction, but instead considers old-time music a living tradition. Their music is rooted in fiddle, banjo, guitar, and vocal harmonies, but is shaped by a strong sense of melody, space, and narrative. With this new album, the focus shifts further toward original songs, without losing the connection to old-time and bluegrass.

“Of Tales And Lies” is a personal and narrative album. The songs move between tradition and observation, between myth and everyday reality. It’s music that gradually unfolds, inviting the listener to move attentively, rather than trying to impress immediately.

The band consists of Adam Bülow (violin), Lukas Pettersson Lindberg (banjo, vocals), and Michael Nyberg (guitar, vocals). The three met during their studies at Lunnevad Folkhögskola and the Malmö Academy of Music.
