Liquid & Bones, a passionate yet quirky blues quartet that plays to make you dance, founded in march 2023
This bunch of people joined forces from quite a different background when it comes to their personal gateways into their love for blues music. Marco, a guitar player at heart started playing when he was a child and never stopped, Lotte found her love for blues music via the swing dance community and picked up the double bass during the pandemic, Collin has spent years on the same dancefloors as Lotte, but started playing drums long before and Loes who has been singing in all kinds of bands since highschool met the blues in 2018 where her soulful voice and heart finally felt at home.
Together they form a dynamic quartet that celebrates all that blues can be. From slow and atmospheric to upbeat and goofy. They are inspired by the first recordings of Memphis Minnie, the guitar play by ´the Texas razor´ Albert Collins, the undeniable Chicago shuffle and the sliding sounds from the Mississippi Delta. They take their own spin and will make it impossible to sit still.
Lengthy bio
“Liquid & Bones, a passionate yet quirky blues quartet, was founded in march 2023.
In search of a new music project, Marco Tinari met with Lotte Dijkstra, who was advised by a fellow musician. Soon, after a first click, Collin van den Broek joined and the duo became a trio. This bunch of people joined forces from quite a different background when it comes to experience, personal gateways into their love for blues music and internal debates about rhythm and melody. And so all these ingredients are put in the recipes of the songs they play.
Marco is a guitar player at heart. He has been playing the blues from when he was a young child and never stopped. First with the Jumpin’ Eye Blues Band, then in search for the roots of the blues with the Papaleg Duo. His journey throughout the years made him play with blues artists like Billy Branch, Garry Burnside, David Lee Durham, Sharon Lewis, Peaches Staten, Jimbo Mathus, Carlos Johnson, Olga Munding, Rich Del Grosso, Cadillac John, Bill Abel, Jon Short, Elam McNight… from the House of Blues in Chicago to the Ebony Club in Indianola MIssissippi. He combines moving his hands at a high speed around the neck of his guitar with a facial expression that reveals nothing but passion.
Lotte Dijkstra found her love for blues music via the magnetic world of swing and blues dancing, where she spent years moving to the grounded beats of African and African American rooted music. Being somewhat restricted during the pandemic, she decided to pick up the double bass, which has its foundation in rhythm, but tells a tonal story as well. She is rapidly developing, so better beware.
Collin has spent years on the same dancefloors as Lotte, but started playing drums long before. Going from mathmatic poprock to swingjazz and now to Liquid & Bones, he has a variety of styles and rhythms in his brain, ready to use in varied world of blues music. His dancing experience tells him what the body needs, from a steady groove to why the start of a turnaround needs to be syncopated.
Loes met the blues in 2018. With her soulful voice she has been making music since high school. Singing to funk, pop and electronic music, but blues is where her voice and heart feel at home. Incapable of sitting still, she’s always looking for new ways to express herself and bluesdancing has recently been added to her list of creative missions.
Liquid & Bones celebrates all that blues can be, from slow and atmospheric to upbeat and goofy. They are inspired by the first recordings of Memphis Minnie, the guitar played by ´the Texas razor´ Albert Collins, the undeniable Chicago shuffle and the sliding sounds from the Mississippi Delta. They take their own spin and will make it impossible to sit still. “
