Three years after their debut Out of Place, Belgian indie pop duo Kids With Buns, Amber Piddington and Marie Van Uytvanck, are set to return with ‘Bell Jar’. The album follows a period in which both musicians were processing simultaneous breakups, with much of the material taking shape during writing sessions in Amber’s bedroom.

The duo says the new album reflects a development in both sound and arrangements, with a stronger focus on depth and a more cinematic character. Producer Jacob Blizard, known for his work with Lucy Dacus, became involved after meeting the duo at a festival in the Netherlands. The collaboration led Amber and Marie to Philadelphia, where they developed several previously written songs with Blizard.

The album title refers to Sylvia Plath’s semi-autobiographical novel The Bell Jar. According to the duo, its themes of recurring cycles and mental health resonated with their own experiences and the patterns they felt themselves returning to.

The album announcement was accompanied by the single Car Crash, a more groove-driven and danceable track that explores the magnetic pull of toxic relationships and the saviour complex connected to them. It offers an indication of the broader musical development behind ‘Bell Jar’.
