The Belgian blues rocker Guy Verlinde is celebrating his 50th birthday this year by releasing two compilation albums. First there was a 4cd box ‘The Best of 50 years – 50 songs’ and now there is the album ‘Best Of Blues Rock’.

‘Best Of Blues Rock’ includes eleven remastered songs from Verlinde’s thirty year-career, representing the different blues rock approaches from his career with his former bands Lightnin’ Guy & The Mighty Gators and Guy Verlinde & The Houserockers and his solo career.

We hear the optimistic and melodic approach in Powered By The Blues, Mr. Maxwell Street, the soulful So Much Love Inside and the absolutely tremendous No Time To Waste. The other approach is the raw, bad to the bone blues rock as practiced by George Thorogood, in Better Days Ahead, Feel Alive, I’ve Been Waitin’ and Pursuit Of Happiness.

The highlight of the album though, is a song where the slightly psychedelic approach from a band like Hot Tuna resonates: the beautiful Silent Violence.

Guy Verlinde closes his 50th birthday celebration in an exciting way with this ‘Best Of Blues Rock’ album.
