David Gilmour is definitely one of the best guitar players in the world and the true voice of Pink Floyd now releases ‘The Luck And Strange Concerts,’ a marvellous and impressive live album, featuring twenty-three tracks. The four LP box consists of the songs of David Gilmour’s Luck And Strange Tour, featuring new material of the ‘Luck And Strange’ album, as well as old timeless Pink Floyd classics.
This almost immaculate album starts with two instrumental tracks, 5 A.M. from the ‘Rattle That Lock’ album (2015) and Black Cat from the ‘Luck And Strange’ album (2024) and both tracks highlight those beautiful, melodic Gilmour solos which give me goosebumps all over the place indeed.
After the title track of Gilmour’s latest album, the listener can enjoy two marvellous Pink Floyd classics, namely Breathe and Time from Floyd’s iconic ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’ album.
Other highlights on this, I know it is a cliché, must have album for Gilmour and Floyd fans are: Marooned, A Great Day For Freedom and High Hopes, all three from Floyd’s ‘Division Bell’ album. Dark And Velvet Nights and Scattered, both from Gilmour’s ‘Luck And Strange’ album and Sorrow from Floyd’s ‘A Momentary Lapse Of Reason’ album.
The only “weak” song of the ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’ album The Great Gig In The Sky, would not have been my choice for this setlist, but THE absolute highlight of this album is of course the Floyd classic Comfortably Numb, featuring one of the best guitar solos EVER; a 100% worthy clincher of this truly awesome album!!
