This Autumn, Welsh singer-songwriter and rising star Laura Evans returns with her anticipated second album, “Out Of The Dark”
Honest, soulful and sonically bold, ‘Out Of The Dark’ marks a powerful new chapter for an artist steadily carving out a unique space in UK music after huge support from BBC Radio 2. Known for her rich vocals and emotionally grounded songwriting, Laura brings together lush pop melodies, bluesy undertones, and heartfelt lyrics on this 12-track collection, a body of work that feels both timeless and current. Produced and co-written with Ian Barter (Paloma Faith, Amy Winehouse, Dermot Kennedy), ‘Out Of The Dark’ is a confident step forward that captures Laura’s evolution as both an artist and a storyteller.
“I poured my heart and soul into this album,” Laura shares. “There are big pop chorus’ introspective bluesy ballads, a southern rock edge and even a dreamy interlude, It’s a little bit of everything I love, tied together with honesty. I worked with some amazing co-writers on this album who really pushed me both with my writing and vocals and I feel these are some of my best songs to date.”
Opening with “Wherever You Are,” a track that’s already earned consistent BBC Radio 2 airplay and featured on editorial playlists across Spotify, Apple Music, and Deezer, the record immediately sets its tone: emotionally resonant, polished, and powerfully performed. Another former single, “What I’m Made Of” continues the momentum; it also secured a coveted spot on the BBC Radio 2 daytime playlist earlier this year. The most recent release “Honest,” a bittersweet break-up anthem praised for its soaring chorus and raw vulnerability, was championed by BBC Radio 2 (New to 2), A-listed on BBC Radio Wales, and picked up by BBC Radio London, affirming Laura’s continued connection with listeners and tastemakers alike.
The album doesn’t shy away from bolder textures either. Tracks like the anthemic “Superman” and retro-infused “ATM,” with its swampy guitars and distorted vocals, explore a blues rock aesthetic that feels both classic and fresh. “Heartbreaker” offers rhythmic drive that’s hard to shake, while “Always & Forever,” written and performed by Laura for her own wedding, delivers sentimental charm wrapped in a timeless pop sensibility. These songs lend the record its dynamic warmth, showcasing Laura’s skill in crafting music that’s as danceable as it is emotionally grounded.
Other standouts include ballads like “Nobody Loves Me Like You,” “Just A Little Bit More,” and “I’ll Be The One” – which strip things back to reveal a tender core; soulful and introspective it’s these quieter moments that not only showcase Laura’s songwriting ability but also allow her vocals to take centre stage and to soar. Closing the album is the emotionally charged “Hear Me Out,” a Southern rock-inspired jam that feels equal parts catharsis and promise. As Laura sings “There’s no going back… I’ll keep on moving… making up for lost time,” the sentiment not only anchors the album but hints at the bold creative path ahead.
