Ladies and gentlemen! Exciting new sounds ahead! Doctor Velvet presents a hot organic mix of rhythm ‘n blues, Latin soul swing and sixties beat with a horn section on their debut album ‘New Breed.’ David Grutter and Jerome de Vijlder are the masterminds behind this new outfit that will certainly become a hit on many festivals to come, both nationally and internationally.
Drenched in reverb and tremolo, David’s raw voice and Jerome’s excellent vintage guitar sounds and virtuoso playing do the trick. The Latin percussion give their songs an edge that is both striking but also mixes in naturally. Add to that their badass looks and energetic stage shows (watch the City Jungle official video with guest Benjamin Herman) and the package is complete. ‘New Breed’ is released on the Amsterdam-based Wap Shoo Wap label and was produced by Paul Willemsen in the Electric Monkey Studio.
In 2022, Doctor Velvet released their first single, Put The Hurt On Me, also on ‘New Breed.’ That song was picked up fast and the teenage friends found themselves touring quite rapidly. Now, after two years, their debut album will surely reach the many fans they picked up along the way. A high school dream is coming true for the boys and there is hope for rock ‘n roll in an era in which bands rather recycle than strive for novel artistic expression. Standing on the shoulders of the giants who invented rock ‘n roll in the fifties, Doctor Velvet exactly does that. What a relief.
Hail hail rock ‘n roll!
